The Berry Best Food – Where Strawberries Rule!
The South Windsor Strawberry Fest is best known for providing the very BEST strawberry shortcakes. For many years, the only offering was shortcakes. Now you can feast on items from food trucks! Your cravings will be satisfied by a variety of local fare – let’s start with Pulled Pork sandwiches and homemade Mac & Cheese, the smell alone will get your mouth watering! Want a taste of Italian? Square Peg Pizza with fresh made pizza by the slice or a full pie, try mozzarella, the kids favorite pepperoni or something special like buffalo chicken. Many flavors to choose from! Vinci’s Fried Dough, French Fries, Chicken Tenders and Fresh Squeezed Lemonade – Wings! We have something for every palate!
Thirsty? We’ve got you covered there, too! Fresh squeezed lemonade should quench that thirst! Before you leave – let’s not forget FRIED DOUGH! Fried dough is available with powdered sugar, cinnamon/sugar mixture or with pizza sauce! YUM!
Thirsty? How about quenching that thirst with our very own Strawberry Soda. Avery’s Beverages in New Britain make this very special soda from a custom formula especially for South Windsor’s Strawberry Fest. We’ve named it South Windsor Berry Soda. The regular soda is made the old-fashioned way with pure cane sugar. Be sure to get there early. Last year, all 1,600 bottles were gone by 2:30 pm! This year we ordered more but don’t miss out. Single bottles sell for $2 and six packs for $10.
Ever taste Strawberry flavored popcorn? If not, you don’t know what you are missing! Keifer’s Kettle Korn will be back offering their tasty fresh popped korn, in original and a variety of flavors – do stop by and try their strawberry flavor – it is worth the visit!
The Anatomy of a Shortcake
What would a Strawberry Festival be without enjoying fresh strawberry shortcake? After the berries are picked, hulled and cleaned, the magic begins. Our “Master Masher” Art Adduci holds tight to the secret recipe; the same recipe used 36 years ago! This recipe ensures each and every shortcake is sweet, and filled with the perfect berries! Our biscuits are made locally at Geissler’s and delivered to the Pavilion at 6:30 am – right out of the oven! The biscuits are flakey and light but sturdy enough to stand up to the berries. Now we top it off with the most delicious, light and fresh whipped cream ever. All made fresh – delicious and ready for you to enjoy. Have one at the fest and take one home – either way you won’t be disappointed!
